Project Description
Kumaraguru Institutions, Coimbatore, is fostering sustainable farming through K-Farm, a 5-acre model farm on campus. Designed as a living lab, this initiative integrates hands-on learning with technology-driven agricultural innovations, enabling students and faculty to explore eco-friendly cultivation methods.
K-Farm focuses on diversified organic farming, growing five varieties of vegetables—Brinjal, Lab Lab, Chilli, Bhendi, and Tomato—along with 225 kg of rice harvested through sustainable practices. 90% of the cultivation is organic, ensuring minimal environmental impact. The farm also includes 30 cents of banana plantation with two varieties and another 30 cents dedicated to maize cultivation.
To promote farm-to-table sustainability, K-Farm supplies fresh produce to the KCT campus mess and Kore, reinforcing a self-sustaining ecosystem. Additionally, the K-Farmers Group facilitates direct sales three times a week, creating an avenue for community engagement and responsible consumption. Currently, 2 acres are under active cultivation, with further expansion planned.
K-Farm stands as a beacon of sustainable agriculture, education, and innovation, equipping students with practical knowledge while contributing to food security and environmental responsibility.
