KIDS Nature Camp at Samathur – Summer Edition 2025 – was a unique experiential learning initiative aimed at nurturing young hearts toward nature. Organized by Kumaraguru Microcosm, the camp brought together over 40 children aged 7 to 14, along with their parents, to explore and connect with nature in the biodiverse and culturally rich landscape of Samathur, Pollachi.
Project Description
Set amidst the serene surroundings of the Samathur Wetland landscape, this interactive camp was designed to help children slow down, observe, and build meaningful bonds with the natural world. Through guided sessions in Nature Journaling, Birdwatching, and Wildlife Zentangle Art, the participants learned to see nature as their playground and classroom. These creative modules, by Ms Keerthana & Microcosm Student team and Dr. Sahithya Selvaraj by encouraging mindful observation and emotional connection with biodiversity.
Adding a cultural touch, a traditional weaving demonstration introduced participants to the harmony between art, patience, and heritage—helping them understand how every thread tells a story of human connection with nature.
The camp also fostered family participation, with parents rediscovering the joy of outdoor learning alongside their children. The heartfelt responses shared after the event reflected the deep impact of such immersive experiences on both children and caregivers—reminding everyone how time spent in nature cultivates empathy, curiosity, and stewardship.
